How submission works

Prepare your abstract, use the appropriate template, and send it through the official participant area.

1

Create your account

Sign in to the IASCL 2027 participant area before submitting an abstract or symposium proposal.

2

Prepare your materials

Choose your presentation format and thematic area, then follow the applicable template and format requirements.

3

Submit and confirm

Upload your abstract in the online system. The corresponding author will receive an automatic confirmation email after successful submission.

What information does the submission form ask for?

During submission, authors will be asked to:

  • Select the preferred presentation format (oral presentation or poster presentation);
  • Choose one of the congress thematic areas;
  • Provide the title of the presentation;
  • Enter the references;
  • Enter author information, affiliations and emails;
  • Upload the abstract according to the format requirements in the template below.

Abstracts must be submitted through the official IASCL 2027 online submission system.

Sign language abstracts

For submitting abstracts in video format, in Brazilian Sign Language, American Sign Language or International Sign, the following guidelines must be observed:

  • The video must be up to 5 minutes long and presented in Libras, ASL or IS. The chosen format must be indicated at the time of submission.
  • The recording must be made with equipment that ensures good image quality, such as a digital camera or equivalent device.
  • If filming is done with a smartphone, the capture direction must be horizontal.
  • Remixing or using shorts is not allowed.

  • Videos submitted by other means, such as email, will not be considered.
  • Sign language abstracts should provide a clear and concise summary of the study, including background (objectives, research questions, and hypotheses), methods, main results, and conclusions.

After receiving the videos, the congress team will prepare an English translation for evaluation by the scientific committee.

Figures, tables, and references

To facilitate the presentation of data, authors may include up to one figure and/or one table, and a maximum of five references.

Figures and tables should be concise, clearly labelled, and directly relevant to the study findings. References should be cited using a consistent academic style. Figures, tables, and references are not included in the 500-word limit.

03 · Symposium proposals

Submit a symposium

Bring related presentations together in one proposal. The component abstracts are reviewed as parts of that proposal.

Symposium proposals must be submitted through the conference's online submission system and may be presented either in written form or in a sign language format.

Each proposal must include:

  • A Symposium Presentation/Introduction (maximum 500 words, excluding title, references, figures, and tables), describing the overall theme and objectives of the symposium, its relevance to current issues in child language research, the relationship among the individual presentations, and a brief summary of each presentation.
  • Up to four individual abstracts, one for each presentation included in the symposium. Each abstract must not exceed 500 words (excluding title, references, figures, and tables).
Download Symposium Template (Portuguese/English)

For symposium proposals submitted in a sign language format, applicants must provide one video link containing the Symposium Overview, and up to four additional video links, one for each individual presentation abstract.

All sign language video submissions must follow the same technical and formatting requirements established for Sign Language Abstract submissions.

Symposium submissions: key clarifications

Are the component abstracts considered separately?

No. They are reviewed together as part of the symposium proposal, not as separate oral or poster submissions. If the symposium is not accepted, its component abstracts will not be considered individually for oral presentations or posters.

Can I be first author of both an individual submission and a symposium contribution?

Yes. The first-author rule for individual submissions does not apply to component abstracts within a symposium. You may be first author of one individual oral or poster abstract and of one abstract included in a symposium. The other authorship and presentation limits under “Evaluation & Policies” still apply.

When should the authors of component abstracts be identified?

At submission, upload the individual abstracts anonymously, without identifying their authors. If the symposium is accepted, the anonymous abstracts will be returned to the symposium proposer, who will then be asked to identify the authors responsible for each abstract.

04 · Review and policies

How proposals are evaluated

Review criteria, acceptance decisions, and authorship rules are set out below.

Review process and evaluation criteria

All submissions will be reviewed by three independent reviewers, who will evaluate each abstract according to the criteria listed below and assign a score.

Abstracts will be evaluated based on:

  • Relevance to child language research;
  • Scientific quality and methodological rigor;
  • Originality and contribution to the field;
  • Clarity of presentation;
  • Appropriateness for the selected thematic area.

The scores assigned by the three reviewers will be averaged to produce a final score for each submission. All abstracts will then be ranked according to their final scores, from highest to lowest. Acceptance decisions will be based on this ranking, taking into account the number of presentation slots available in the conference program.

The Scientific Committee reserves the right to recommend a different presentation format (oral presentation or poster) when necessary for program organization and scheduling purposes.

First authorship and symposia

A researcher may be first author of one individual oral or poster abstract and one abstract included in a symposium, subject to the presentation limits below.

Authorship and presentation rules

Each researcher may personally present a maximum of two papers at the conference.

As a general rule, a researcher may be listed as first author of only one individual submission (oral presentation or poster presentation).

Exception for symposia: a researcher who is the first author of an individual oral or poster submission may also be listed as the first author of one individual paper included in a symposium. Therefore, a researcher may appear as first author on two papers only when one is an individual oral/poster submission and the other is a contribution included in a symposium.

  • A researcher may not be listed as first author of two individual oral/poster submissions;
  • A researcher may not be listed as first author of two different papers within symposia;
  • A researcher may be listed as first author of one individual oral/poster submission and one paper included in a symposium.

Researchers may be listed as co-authors on any number of additional submissions. However, each researcher may personally present no more than two papers at the conference. Any additional accepted paper must be presented by another co-author who is registered for the conference.

The presenter of each accepted paper must be listed as one of its authors and must be registered for the conference.
